An affiliate marketer is a salesman on the web. When you search for information, you may click into his review of a product or service.  His salespage is his pitch to you, explaining the benefits, the price, and perhaps the drawbacks of the product.  His affiliate link—a url that has the product name in it with a unique code for the affiliate–leads to the payment page, and from there you are directed to the delivery page for your purchase. The delivery is actually done by the site the product developer has chosen for storage of his product.

A popular affiliate holding, or storage, site is Clickbank.  At Clickbank, the process is automated and streamlined, making for a very easy way to accumulate profits.

However, promotion of the affiliate product is key to this process.

Promotion of the product is the advertising you do to attract the notice of people looking to buy.  It is work, and it takes time, but if you stay with it, the profits will increase over time, with less and less effort on your behalf.

Article marketing is free and reliable advertising for your product or service.  Write a how-to and recommend the product in the resource box, write a review, or write a recommendation based on your own experience.  List five reasons the customer needs the product, or three problems the product will solve.  Be conversational and friendly in tone to inspire confidence.

Blogging about the product is a fun and extremely interactive way to engage people in a discussion of the product.  Ask for feedback on the blog to see if anyone has used the product and include positive testimonials in one of your posts.

Put up a squidoo lens-which is free and fun- to introduce the product.  Grab a YouTube video that relates to the product, invite others to comment on a guestbook, and use a big arrow link to your affiliate product so it won’t be missed.  Link this lens to your webpage that presells the product.

Set yourself a reasonable schedule to work on each of these promotional activities each week and you will soon see a return on your efforts which will continue to increase in a way that will surprise and delight you.
